The 8th Year Pilgrimage to Sabarimala

If you have been following my previous travelog, you would have seen my 8th year pilgrimage already but to Potamac-bank Maryland Sabarimala. And this year the pilgrimage was to Kerala Sabarimala after a hiatus of six years. Looks like the Saade Saathi has put a pause to my Sabarimala pilgrimage during its regime.

January 8: We started to Nanganallur Guruvayoorappan Temple where Nanganallur Manikanda Sabha had organized the Kettu Nira (Irumudi Preparation) for everyone. After completing the Irumudi preparation and food at 12.30 PM we were waiting in the same place till 4.30 and started to Pazhavanthangal Railway Station to get the train to Chennai Central. The train ticket was a waitlisted one. Thanks to a co-pilgrim working in Dinamalar who got hold of General Manager office team in Southern Railways to get through the HO (EQ) quota and get the same confirmed.

January 9: We reached Chengannur Station and then boarded a tempo traveller which we hired for our Sabarimala pilgrimage. A few spots which we visited were:

  1. Holy Dip at Pampa near Aranmula
  2. Visit to Aranmula Sri Parthasarathy Temple
  3. Erumeli Sri Dharmasastha Temple
  4. Vavar Mosque

Since a section of pilgrims were trekking through Periya Pathai, instead of waiting at Pampa, we thought we would see a few places. A few places we visited were:

  1. Thrickodithanam
  2. Tiruvalla
  3. Thiruvanvandur

The saturday night had a cruel smile of destiny on me with profuse vomiting. Thanks to Ayyappa I swam through the hurdle and went to a doctor next morning who gave me an intravenous injection to sustain through the pilgrimage.

January 10: Reached Pampa by evening. Rest at Viri after dinner being served by Nanganallur Manikanda Sabha.

January 11: Started Trekking early morning in Chinna Pathai and reached Sannidhanam by 7 AM. Had a good, less-crowded darshan. Then after unpacking Irumudi, went through North Gate for another round of Darshan. After completing the darshan of Malikaipurathamman, started trek down by 11 AM.  Reached Nilakkal by 2 PM. Then the next long journey resumes to Kaladi.

January 12: Had the darshan at Kaladi temples and Sri Sankara Mutt and started back to Kottayam for boarding the train back to Chennai in the evening.
