Thei Pirai Ashtami Celebrations at Pozhichalur Shani Temple
Today is Thei pirai. In my previous visit to Pozhichalur Shani Temple, I saw a board there indicating special poojas on the following days:
- Thei Pirai (Falling Phase of Moon)
- Amavasya (New Moon Day)
So I had planned to attend the pooja today. I started around 3.30 PM. Fortunately got connecting buses in time and reached temple by 4.30 PM. One another devotee also wanted to give milk so I went to the shop outside to get two milk packets. The homam started by 5 PM followed by Abhishekam, Deeparadhana, deity procession and Prasadam distribution which went till 8.30 PM.
The salient feature of this pooja is that during the deeparadhana to Sri Samhara Kala Bhairavar, two dogs also howl at the same time.
When starting back one co-devotee who was bound to Perungalathur gave a ride till Tambaram so that effectively spared a cumbersome wait at Pozhichalur since bus services shrink at that time.
