This weekend I had to search for an apartment near by workplace in Ayrsley Town Blvd. In the morning I had some interesting route conflicts because Bing Maps showed different way but the actual road was looking different. Fortunately a cop patrol near the gas station guided me the direction. Hardly did I walk for a few feet when he honked me loud from behind asking me where I was going and gave me a ride till the nearest apartment community office.
I compared a few more apartments en route and saw a office of Department of Homeland Security in the way. Finally zeroed on to Arrowood Crossing which is about a mile walk from my workplace besides close vicinity to Walmart (Whitehall Commons Shopping Center).
After a few hours rest at La Casa Inn hotel (NC) now I had to prepare for the client interview. Had a quick visit to the neighborhood Dollar Tree to get a few groceries things. Actually this week had been Navarathri also so just quickly unwrapped a few dolls from my suitcases and set up a quick Kolu in my hotel room itself.
The hotel had complimentary breakfast and hence that issue would be taken care for the next few days till I find an apartment in the neighborhood. However this day I can not forget (6th October). Just similar to 6th December being observed as a Black Day in India for secularism, for me 6th October had been scary since some one who is considered part and parcel of me, chose to back-stab me on this day two years before.
As I had explained in my previous post here, I moved yesterday to The Four Points Manassas hotel which is a Sheraton group offering complimentary breakfasts. For yesterday’s lunch and dinner I had to manage it and hence made a visit to Jerry Subs and the neighborhood Chipotle Mexican Grill.
For today morning it was good breakfast in the morning. Around 11 AM I got a call from the travel desk that my trip to North Carolina is being confirmed and I had to check-out the same day evening. Oops! A move again? Are consultants balls in the hands of employers in this country? But the flight was from Baltimore Maryland and hence I had book the cab for a long distance!
Finally at 4 PM I bid adieu to the state of Virginia and proceeded towards Baltimore MD airport. At the airport I had an interesting experience. Since I was little overweight I had to pay a bit extra. And if I pay $4 more I would be elevated to business class travel. So got a good opportunity to travel business class with a couple of complimentary refreshments on board AirTran too.
After the flight finally touched down Charlotte NC International Airport, I got a cab to go the hotel (La Casa Inn) on Nations Ford Road. Just a week back I had trip in Washington DC sight-seeing and I saw Ford’s Theater. The four-letter word ‘Ford’ is actually causing and giving me a lot of psychic turbulence to me for obvious reasons. “We make everyday exciting?”
Thanks to WordPress for the unique milestones it has to indicate our journey in the blogosphere. As I posted “The Weekend Stay at Homestead, Chantilly“, it indicated that I have completed the first twenty posts milestone.
And it also keeps indicating our milestones in our journey.
Since my contract with the existing client was over on 23rd September 2011, the helpdesk had to put me in Homestead for a couple of days before they could finalize my trip to North Carolina. So I had to bid adieu to Manassas, returning all the client’s stuff to them, keys to the apartment personnel, register a mail hold/forwarding request with USPS etc. I had a cabbie friend called ‘Zafar’ who earlier helped me in my trip to Atlanta. He in fact dropped by and helped me move the luggages to Homestead Hotels in Chantilly. Even this stay was going to be short because the actual person booking the trip was not there.
I had to quickly buy some two day grocery in the neighborhood desi store. Heaven knows why Manassas is devoid of Indian stores/food and interestingly spent an year there. Typical exile or incarceration? I fondly hope that this reduces my bad karma to a significant extent. On Sunday evening the helpdesk called me that next week till I get North Carolina ticket I can stay in Four Points Manassas which is more a luxury hotel with complimentary breakfasts too.
On the short stay at Chantilly I had an interesting dream. It looked like I am watching a movie called ‘Raman Thediya Seethai’. The next day when I wake up and searched if there was some movie like that. Though the scenes within the dream movie didn’t match but it the real movie by Cheran was very an excellent master-piece and in some ways Cheran illustrates the happenings in our life quite lucidly.
So I had to do a checkout on Monday to Four Points Manassas again.
