711 may be located very near the apartments and in the gas stations however I felt on a couple of occasions that compared to Shoppers Food/Walmart/Walgreens they are little pricey. Somewhere around in India, we can compare this situation to Nilgiris/Food World and the local street corner retail shop. The latter needs to add his own margin thus making a little high priced. It may be better for an emergency or quick purchase but a week ahead planning might help save a few dime.
This week visit to Shopper’s Food was a pleasant surprise. At the register whilst checking out I just realized an additional item called ‘Reusable Bag’. I interrupted him telling that the bag was actually not from the shopping cart but my personal one and I didn’t need the plastic ones.
He then clarified that I wasn’t actually billed in that item but rather rewarded for using my own bag. A reward of 0.5 cents off the total bill in an honestly humble gesture of Shoppers to encourage its customers from starting to be environment-friendly.
You can see a lot of signages on the hot lanes where Virginia Department of Transporatation have put this signages. The bottomline of the story is that when you see such boards you are expected to turn off your mobile phones and exercise heightened vigil over the wheel and the road. You can find more information about this practice from their website over here. You may not be aware that Texting whilst on wheel is considered a serious driving offence at least in the state of Virginia.
As always it is recommended to stay off the wheel when under the influence of alcohol.
Elsewhere in Asia Pacific you can observe a similar innovative road signage put up by Himachal Pradesh state government in many of its hilly roads. Basically their objective is to have illuminated roads thus making it safer and secure for drivers all through their journey. The code name for the project in Himachal Pradesh is ‘Project Deepak’.
A few good things from Chennai City Traffic Police towards the metropolitan roads are:
We just thought after the hectic week we would spend this weekend lunch @PandaExpress. We started around 1 PM to reach the Panda Express which is in the other street which is about 5 minutes drive. After having some good lunch at Panda Express we started back. The newest song in my friend’s car that was inspiring was ‘Jag se Sundar Hai Do Naam’. I think we have discussed about this song a while back here.
We returned back to work around 2 PM. The mercury was soaring up to 102 F.
Today I had to meet some one near Stonewall Jackson. Since we already saw how hot the weather is becoming I just took a nap in the comfort of the apartment air conditioner in the afternoon and started around 7 PM evening. Once I met my friends there I just thought I would also complete my early dinner and this time I chose Panda Express. I had some tiny shopping for a few groceries at Shoppers Food and Dollar Tree before I started driving back home.
The time was showing 8.45 PM and it was still bright outside demonstrating how hot and bright the weather is turning these days. On my return journey just took a snap of the growing moon (Today is second day after New Moon Day).
Summer seems to be abysmally hotter even at the inception. Yesterday I just thought I would visit Chipotle for quick lunch, which is just a few blocks away. The Virginia summer seems to be scorching hot even now. The temperature of 95 F brought pricking headache for the whole day and hence I think henceforth a quick pack of curd rice to carry for the lunch should be the best bet.
Just watch a snapshot of the weather from my friend’s phone.
